Ontario Salmon Guides

I get asked all the time, “Who are the best Salmon Guides in Ontario?” This question refers to river guides, and not open water charter boats.

At one time, the answer might have been me and my guides. But I’ll tell you why I’m no longer the top salmon guide in Ontario shortly.

You see, salmon fishing in Ontario can be great, but there aren’t very many salmon guides that specialize in salmon fishing becuase the best salmon rivers are often crowded, or they are closed on October 1st, and most of the salmon are safe from anglers way up the river.

It could also be that most river guides prefer to fish for and guide for steelhead instead, myself included.

Salmon anglers can catch big salmon on a fly rod, try swinging big flies with a Spey rod, or catch lots of salmon float fishing with a centerpin rod, or even float fish or throw lures with a spinning reel outfit.

But, just so you know, you do not need a guide to catch salmon. In fact, if you know where, when, and how to fish for them properly, it’s easy to catch lots.

But, if you still want a guided trip for salmon in Ontario, you have some options.

I am one of the only river guides in Ontario who is skilled enough to offer traditional and modern fly fishing methods for salmon, 2-handed Spey fishing for salmon, centrepin fishing, also known as float fishing, and spin fishing.
